MY ISLAND

Arranged by mutual friends, the members of MY ISLAND met for the first time at a rehearsal studio in New Brunswick, NJ on a cold night in February of 2009.

Dan Brennan, Brian Maguire (ex-Outsmarting Simon), and Vincent Minervino (ex-Roses Are Red) were at similar stages of their lives - they had all moved on from successful touring bands and were looking for right opportunity to start a new project.

The three met at that same space every week for 18 months - writing, recording, re-writing, and re-recording as a makeshift three-piece.

Maguire and Brennan had previously played together in Mothernight, a New Brunswick-based hardcore band, and remained close friends after the band dissolved.

In late summer of 2010, the timing was right for Scott Saint Hilaire (ex-Lifetime) to join the band on guitar.

Minervino and Saint Hilaire played briefly in a project together, but conflicting schedules and other commitments kept it from from getting off the ground. The two kept in touch, while Saint Hilaire worked on a solo acoustic project and Minervino worked on demos that would eventually become MY ISLAND songs. They e-mailed home-recorded snippets back and forth regularly, eventually realizing that they had similar musical aspirations.

With a full lineup, the band recorded the first three songs, released them as a free digital download, and played its first show at The Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ in the fall of 2010.

Since then, the band has strengthened its live presence in the greater New York City and New Jersey area, and continues to write new material. The band is currently recording an EP which will see a limited vinyl and digital release in the fall of 2011.
